early diastolic murmur

A murmur that begins with the second heart sound, as the murmur of aortic insufficiency.

 

early posttraumatic epilepsy

Seizures beginning within one week after severe head injury.

 

ebracteate

<botany> Without bracts.

<chemistry> A hard, black variety of vulcanite. It may be cut and polished, and is used for many small articles, as combs and buttons, and for insulating material in electric apparatus.

eccentric hypertrophy

Thickening of the wall of the heart or other cavity, with dilation.

ecchondroma

1. A cartilaginous neoplasm arising as an overgrowth from normally situated cartilage, as a mass protruding from the articular surface of a bone, in contrast to enchondroma.

2. An enchondroma which has burst through the shaft of a bone and become pedunculated.

 

ecchymoma

A slight haematoma following a bruise.

 

ecchymosis

<dermatology> A small haemorrhagic spot, larger than a petechia, in the skin or mucous membrane forming a nonelevated, rounded or irregular, blue or purplish patch.

 

eccrine acrospiroma

<tumour> A tumour derived from eccrine sweat glands, composed of glycogen-rich clear cells.

 

eccrine poroma

<tumour> A poroma or acrospiroma of the eccrine sweat glands, usually occurring on the sole of the foot.

 

eccrine spiradenoma

<tumour> A typically painful benign skin tumour composed of two cell types derived from the secretory part of eccrine sweat glands.

echocardiographic differentiation

The processing of a signal so that the output depends upon the rate of change of the input; e.g., it will display changes in amplitude but will reduce the duration of the waveform.

 

echocardiography

Echocardiography is a diagnostic test which uses ultrasound waves to make images of the heart chambers, valves and surrounding structures. It can measure cardiac output and is a sensitive test for inflammation around the heart (pericarditis). It can also be used to detect abnormal anatomy or infections of the heart valves.
